With great sadness, we say goodbye to Jane Cummins
Jane Patricia Cummins, Partner, Duty Solicitor and Head of
the Family Department at Wainwright & Cummins LLP, passed away unexpectedly
on 8th June 2014 at the age of 63.
Jane initially worked as an
English teacher in a Catholic secondary school, before joining the firm in 1996.
She qualified as a solicitor in 1998, practicing both Criminal Law and Family
Law, and founding the firm’s Family Department. In 2001, she obtained Child
Panel membership and qualified as a Duty Solicitor, and she developed the Family
Department further following the firm’s move to offices on Acre Lane , Brixton. She continued to
undertake both Criminal and Family work over the course of her career.
In her personal life, Jane had a
passion for the opera and theatre. She had a penchant for picking up
last-minute bargains at the Opera House and the National Theatre, and regularly
attended both with her husband. She often enjoyed a glass of white wine with
colleagues at the end of a long day, and was a regular fixture on the firm’s
social outings.
Jane was much-loved by all who
worked with her. She was a constant source of support and guidance to her
colleagues, both personally and professionally, as well as a valued friend. She
always had time for everyone, no matter how busy she was. She had incredible
empathy for her clients, and showed a great commitment to advancing the cause
of the vulnerable and weak. It is a tragic loss to the firm, her family and her
clients, and she will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her husband
Jonathan Cummins, also a Partner at the firm, and their three children.
